California Minimum Wage Increases 2019

Minimum Wage Law 2018 Update: California

California has been one of the states leading the legislative trend to establish mandated minimum wage rates far above the federal rate. In addition to the state minimum wage, local cities and municipalities have established their own, as well.

Minimum-wage employees in San Francisco and a few other cities got another $1 an hour raise on Sunday, July 1, 2018. This increase represents the last phase of a multi-year plan to increase the minimum wage in San Francisco to the current rate of $15.00 per hour.

Be Clear On Overtime Pay In California

Until the federal government finalizes new rules regarding the salary floor for exempting employees from overtime pay, the current provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) still apply.

As of January 1, 2018 California's overtime minimum wage is one and a half times the current California minimum wage rates of $10.50 per hour for businesses employing 26 or more workers. For those employers with 25 or less, the current wage is set at a minimum of $10.50 per hour.

Be Clear On California Minimum Wages

For minimum wage, California state has one of the highest in the U.S. In addition, many cities and counties in California require an even higher minimum wage for employees.

For 2018 the California minimum wage is set at $11.00 per hour for businesses with 26 or more employees and, for those companies less than 25 workers, the minimum wage in California is $10.50 per hour.
