What Is Certified Payroll And What You Should Know

All payroll is not created equal. This is especially true of certified payroll for government contracts and public works projects. 

 

So, what is certified payroll? A brief explanation is found on the State of California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) website:

"Contractors and subcontractors on most public works projects are required to submit certified payroll records (CPRs) to the Labor Commissioner using DIR's electronic certified payroll reporting system."

That's fine, but a bit brief and high-level, so let's take a deeper look at certified payroll.

Reporting Requirements For EEO-1 Data

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission will collect pay data from both the 2018 and 2017 calendar years. Are you prepared?

 

The contentious issue of what exactly needs to be filed for EEO-1 reporting for 2019 has been resolved for the time being. Employee pay data for both 2017 and 2018 must be reported to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) by September 30, 2019.

California Employers And Paid Sick Leave

While California struggles through the flu season, employers may find that complying with the layers of paid sick leave requirements can be challenging. In addition to the state Paid Sick Leave Law, at least six local municipalities have their own sick leave ordinances. And these local laws impose greater restrictions on employers.
