New Administration Not Favorable Towards DOL's Final Rule

The Trump White House recently instructed federal agencies to freeze all pending regulations. This action appears to include a number of labor and employment rules initiated under the Obama administration.

The Trump administration recently indicated that it was not favorable towards allowing former President Obama's expanded update of federal overtime pay rules. This was underscored by a court filing indicating that it may withdraw a White House appeal of a federal court's recent invalidation of the so-called Final Rule.

Overtime Overview: The FSLA Final Rule

The Department of Labor (DOL) published its Final Rule earlier this year which updated overtime regulations.

Beginning December 1, 2016, the Rule will automatically extend overtime pay protections to over 4 million workers within the first year of implementation.

Labor Law Update: Overtime Exemption

The federal government's labor law update regarding overtime exemption will go into effect in less than two weeks. Are you prepared?

On May 18, 2016, President Obama and Department of Labor Secretary Perez announced the publication of the Department of Labor’s (DOL) final rule updating the overtime regulations. The updated rule will become effective on December 1, 2016 and will automatically extend overtime pay eligibility to as many as 4.2 million workers within its first year.
