Maintaining a positive company culture with engaged employees is challenging. Doing so with a remote workforce during COVID-19 even more so.

With so many businesses struggling to survive and thrive with the restrictions placed on them during the coronavirus pandemic, there is a real danger of employees becoming "unengaged." 

Although remote workers had already become a growing trend, many employers have had a remote workforce thrust on them unexpectedly. How do you manage them?

Despite repeated assurances that technology has made remote workforce management "easy", the reality is that there are many different dynamics to deal with. And technology doesn't address all of them.

On March 17, 2020, California Governor Newsom issued an executive order that suspended certain provisions of the California Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.

The goal is to provide businesses with some relief from the unprecedented actions being taken to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Retroactive as of March 4, 2020, which is when a State of Emergency was declared in California, the order will be in effect through the end of this emergency. The order suspends penalty provisions of the California WARN Act, including the noncompliance remedies of back pay, other damages, and civil penalties.
